Who are Scouts?

Scouts are a go-getting group of young people aged 10 ½ to 14 who:

Master new skills and try new things
Make new friends
Have fun and go on adventures, at home and abroad
Explore the world around them
Help others and make a difference, in their own communities and beyond

Week in and week out, they gather in groups called Scout Troops to conquer the small task of changing the world.

Staged Activity Badges

Scouts build on the experiences they have learnt so far. They are encouraged to work together and take the lead on all sorts of projects, develop their leadership and planning skills and if they are very lucky may gain the opportunity to go flying in a glider. Along their journey, the Scouts will earn a range of badges, which they can wear on their shirts, to show everyone how much they have learn, developed and of course how much fun they have had. There are three main types of badges; staged, activity and challenge badges which lead way to the top award for Scouts; the Chief Scout’s Gold Award. What do Scouts wear?

1st Lingwood and Strumpshaw Scouts are an Air Scout group. There are also Land and Sea Scouts. As Air Scouts, the uniform consists of a light blue shirt which are available to purchase at The Norfolk Scout Shop, in Norwich or via their website. As with Beavers and Cubs, the Scouts also require a group necker, this can be purchased from the Norfolk Scout Shop, if they do not already have one from their previous section. Part of the Scouts uniform as Air Scouts is also a beret. The beret will be awarded to the young person by the Scout Leader at the appropriate time.

The shirt has all the badges, which they have the opportunity to earn during their time with the group, sewn onto it.

Other uniform items including scout trousers are also available, but these are optional.

Scout badges should be placed as shown in the diagram. If you have any questions, please speak to your leaders.

Scout badges are awarded by Scout leaders to the young people as they are earned.

The Staged Activity badges are for different activities such as nights away or hikes, each badge awarded may look the same as one previously award, however there are different stages or levels. Therefore there should only be one Staged Activity badge for each activity on the uniform and this should be the badge with the highest number. As more stages for the same activity are completed, the newest badge should replace the older badge.
