Who are Beaver Scouts?

Beavers are young people aged from 6 to 8 years old who meet each week on a Tuesday evening (term time only) in their Beaver Colony. During their meetings they will:

• Master new skills and try new things
• Have fun and go on adventures
• Make friends
• Are curious about the world around them
• Help others and make a difference, on their own doorsteps and beyond

Beaver will have lots of fun and adventures during their time in their colony. As part of joining each scout makes a promise. A promise is a set of words which mean something and you try to follow every day. Everyone is unique but there are some things all Beavers agree on, like treating everyone with kindness and promising to do their best, they might also promise to live by their own belief or faith.

What do Beavers Scouts wear?

When a young person has decided they would like to become a Beaver Scout, they will require a Beaver Scout sweatshirt and a group necker, which is available to purchase at The Norfolk Scout Shop, in Norwich or via their website. The sweatshirt has all the badges, which they have the opportunity to earn during their time with the group, sewn onto it.

There are other Beaver Scout items which can be purchased, which included a Beavers t-shirt, Scout trousers and a Beaver baseball cap as well as various other items.

Staged Activity Badges

Beavers are encouraged to explore and try new and different activities. These are based around making things, outdoor activities, playing games, going on visits, investigating nature, learning how to be and stay safe and most importantly making friends
Along their journey, the Beavers will earn a range of badges, which they can wear on their jumpers to show everyone how much fun and the adventures they have taken part in. There are three main types of badges; staged, activity and challenge badges which lead way to the top award for Beavers; the Chief Scout’s Bronze Award. To find out more about each challenge badge click here.

Beaver badges should be placed as shown in the diagram. If you have any questions, please speak to your leaders.

Beaver badges are awarded by Beaver leaders to the young people as they are earned.

The Staged Activity badges are for different activities such as nights away or hikes, each badge awarded may look the same as one previously award, however there are different stages or levels. Therefore there should only be one Staged Activity badge for each activity on the uniform and this should be the badge with the highest number. As more stages for the same activity are completed, the newest badge should replace the older badge.
